🔀 Varying Sentence Openers
Encourage students to mix their openers: alternate between starting with
"I..." (e.g.
"I bought...") and starting with
"On [Day] I..." (e.g.
"On Monday I..."). This develops lively sentence variety.
⏱ Past-Tense Grammar Check
Ensure students understand that because the prompt specifies
"last week", they must write in past tense:
"went" (not "go"),
"played" (not "play"),
"bought" (not "buy").
✍️ Capitalization Vigilance
Remind students that every sentence has at least two capital letters: the word
I and the proper noun day (
Sunday,
Monday, etc.).
🗣 Oral Brainstorming
Before writing, conduct a quick round-robin: Ask,
"Who can tell me one thing you did on Saturday?" Hearing classmates share ideas sparks creative memory for each student.
